Shape change! Unsustainable land use, rampant urbanisation, infrastructural development and anthropogenic climate change are impairing the functioning of our global ecosystem – and thus the basis for human life. If we are to initiate and manage the necessary transformation processes in our society, we need skilled people who are able to perform a systemic analysis of our global ecosystem and its threats, but who also bear future risks and scenarios in mind. They have to be able to derive suitable strategies for sustainable development based on the analysis of the problem.

Programme structure

The English-language programme »Global Change Management« is aimed at students from all disciplinary backgrounds who strive to find solutions for a global sustainability transformation. In international study groups, students become acquainted with concepts and application-based instruments in order to develop a systemic, networked perspective which informs their thought and action. The theoretical skills gained are then put into practice in a research project either in Germany or abroad.

Career opportunities

After graduation, GCM students are equipped with the skills to instigate and implement change management in the most diverse sectors of society. The global job market is open to them, particularly in fields relating to, for example, change management in different organisations, projects in development assistance, sustainable (natural) resource management, sustainability management, climate change mitigation management or economic and socio-political risk management. Students can also continue their academic careers and pursue doctoral studies.
