Around the world, humans are facing the mounting challenge of sustainably managing our forests and natural resources as well as protecting them as the basis of life. As a result, there is growing demand for ecosystem managers with skills required to work in international contexts and apply holistic approaches. Our programme »International Forest Ecosystem Management« is one of the few study concepts around the world oriented toward tackling these challenges.
Programme structure
Students are equipped with the skills to preserve and manage (forest) ecosystems in accordance with the principles of sustainability. Students learn how ecosystems worthy of protection can be integrated into comprehensive land use concepts and gain the competences to plan and implement such concepts in collaboration with the relevant land users. Approximately half of the programme is taught in English – ideal preparation for the international job market. The methodological and subject-specific knowledge gained in the university is then applied in a practical study semester abroad, providing students with career experience.

Career opportunities
Our graduates have the necessary skills for applied and solution-oriented work in organisations involved in natural resource management at both national and international levels. They go on to work in nature protection or reforestation projects, in international development cooperation, in public, private or non-profit employers (e.g. NGOs) as well as in land use projects.
