Wood processing trades increasingly feature methods from engineering sciences. To meet the demand for specialists in the branch, the Faculty of Wood Engineering offers the programme »Wood Engineering« as a dual degree. The programme combines the practical apprenticeship with the Bachelor’s degree in Wood Engineering. The student and their apprenticeship company both benefit from the complimentary knowledge in scientific engineering and practical skills. After completing the programme, students have excellent prospects as engineers in a wide range of professions along the entire value-added chain of wood as well as in related sectors.
Programme structure
Depending on the apprenticeship, the dual study programme Wood Engineering offers specialisations in process and production engineering or timber construction. The standard period of study is eight semesters including practical phases and the completion of the Bachelor’s thesis. The degree programme consists of 180 ECTS credits. The curriculum is structured in modules and comprises practical phases at partner companies, taught courses at the HNEE and long-distance learning (blended learning modules).
Career opportunities
The Wood Engineering dual programme is ideally suited to students who are interested in engineering science as well as an apprenticeship in joinery, carpentry or wood processing engineering. It is also aimed at people interested in running a business in the wood industry – from timber construction to high-quality interiors – and related sectors. For students already qualified in the trade, this dual study programme can also be combined with working life in a vocational variation.
