Sustainable Economics and Management

(Renaming of the previous Bachelor’s programme “Sustainable Management” as of summer semester 2021)

Interested in running a sustainable, environmentally-friendly and socially-responsible business? Want to implement innovative ideas, be active and run your own company in a responsible manner or work with other economic players? The study programme “Sustainable Economics and Management” prepares students for their future careers, featuring diverse subject areas, practical applications and responsibility.

Programme structure

In a nutshell: Three semesters of foundations in sustainable economics, one semester of practical experience in a company, two semesters of exploring topics in greater depth and a Bachelor’s thesis, and two specialisations selected from the five available (Sustainability Marketing, Responsible Business Management, Innovation in Economy for the Common Good & Entrepreneurship, Regional Development & Transformation, Sustainable Value Creation in SMEs).

In the first three semesters, students learn the fundamentals of successful, economic trade, practice or learn methods and competences, and benefit from the opportunity to pursue their own interests through the selection of elective modules.
The core topic areas include sustainable economics, economic mathematics and varied areas of business administration (human resource management, marketing, management, controlling, finance & law). In addition, students have a practical introduction to company environmental management and enjoy lively discussion in module components such as business ethics. The skills and knowledge gained in the first three semesters is then put into practice in a 20-week internship in a company. In regard to its flexibility allowing students to specialise, the programme is particularly innovative. Every student can tailor their skills to their future career through their choice of elective modules, the practical project, advanced modules in 5th and 6th semesters as well as the Bachelor’s thesis. Individual interests and study periods abroad can all be integrated into the programme structure. Furthermore, the Faculty of Sustainable Business offers a pleasant learning experience in groups as well as individual consultations.

Career opportunities

Modern, cutting-edge educational concepts based on sustainable learning and easy access to enterprises in the region prepare students for their future role in economics and the management of limited resources. Graduates have a wide range of career possibilities open to them, from opportunities in economics and regional networks to setting up new initiatives. At the same time, the programme paves the way to continue education in one of the many available Master’s study programmes.
